The founding vice-chancellor, Charles Carter, came into post on 1 April 1963, on 14 September 1964 HM the Queen approved the Charter and Statutes, and the first students were admitted in October 1964 to study.
Since its original opening various additional buildings have been added to the existing campus and numerous areas have been up-graded.
One of the areas in question was the refurbishment of the Library Building and its Main Entrance. Commencing our works in April 2015 Anglezarke Designs Limited designed, fabricated and installed a huge Atrium rooflight located over the Library building. These works together with the entrance area comprised:
- Library Rooflight – Six-portal frame system utilising Reynaers CW50 Curtain Walling. Consisting of 22 Aluminium Louver Panels with Electric Operations all fabricated and installed.
- Library Main Entrance:
1 x Two Sided Screen Measuring 17300mm x 3690mm tall
1 x Screen measuring 9800mm on plan x 3690mm tall
1 x Glass Screen measuring 2700mm x 3160mm tall – Utilising a Reynaers CW 50 Curtain Wall Frame System
The Library was re-opened in 2016 and is enjoyed by the community of students and teachers alike.
